In Memory: Arlean S. Hawes

Arlean S. Hawes, 91, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, died August 23 at Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan.

She was born May 11, 1909, in Persia to Oliver and Fronia Nixon. She taught school in Iowa. She and her husband farmed near Woodbine, then farmed her grandfather's homestead at Persia from 1942 until 1997. They received a Century Farm Award from the state of Iowa. They moved to Fort Morgan in 1997.

Mrs. Hawes was preceded in death by her husband, Dean.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Martens, of Princeton West Virginia; a son, Ron, of Fort Morgan; a sister, Vonda Kemmish, of Persia; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held at Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral was held Saturday at Hennessey-Schumacher Funeral Home in Logan. Burial was in the Harris Grove Cemetery at Logan.
