In Memory: Charles McKern

Charles McKern, 76, of Council Bluffs died August 2 at his home.

He was born in Council Bluffs on June 30, 1924, to Charles McKern and Florence Jeffers McKern. He was a car-man for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Glendale Presbyterian Church and Union No. 6577 and was a 50-plus year member of Cobia Lodge No. 631 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. McKern was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1993.

Survivors include three daughters, Connie Holly and husband, Richard, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Carol Wright of Council Bluffs and Lynne Eckley and husband, Ken, of Underwood; three sons, Larry and wife, Rita, Richard and wife, Deb, and Gary and wife, Jeri, all of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Vera Jensen and Dorothy Waters, both of Council Bluffs; a brother, Lawrence, and wife, Eleanor, of Council Bluffs; 24 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Masonic Service was conducted by Cobia Lodge No. 631, A.F. & A.M., Friday at 7 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home, followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m.

Funeral was held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Hendrickson and the Rev. Loren Parker officiating.

Burial was in the Garner Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to Glendale Presbyterian Church or the Masonic Temple.
