In Memory: Wilma Eileen Nicolai

Wilma Eileen Nicolai, 83, the daughter of Rudolph Claus and Leveia Treble Albers was born on August 15, 1917 in rural Corley and died on February 5, 2001 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home Oakland.

Wilma was baptized and confirmed at the English Lutheran Church in Avoca. She attended Corley Elementary School and then went on to graduate from Harlan High School in 1935.

After high school, Wilma worked for Production Credit Association in Harlan as a secretary and bookkeeper. On October 12, 1935 she was united in marriage to Paul Edward Nicolai. Two children were born to this union: Pauline and Ann. After marriage, Wilma and Paul took over the Nicolai family farm, where Wilma took care of the house and also helped with farm business. In 1983, Wilma and Paul moved from the farm to Treynor. Wilma lived in Treynor until moving to Oakland Manor in January of 2000.

Wilma had been in 4-H, was a member of JJB, and enjoyed playing Bunco, bowling, and flowers and visiting with people. She was a member of the Western Iowa Quarterhorse Association, the Mary Martha Circle, the Saint Paul Lutheran Church, and the Women's Quilting Group. Wilma and Paul had spent a lot of time showing horses and attending horse shows. Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Ed Albers and a sister, Margaret Koos.

Wilma is survived by two daughters; Pauline Kelsay and her husband Delbert of Burlington, Iowa and Ann Vorthmann and her husband Roger of McClelland, Iowa; five grandchildren: Scott Kelsay, Teresa Hull, Chad Vorthmann, Debra Vorthmann and Erica Vorthmann; seven great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters; Lloyd Albers, Dorothy Swope, Richard Albers, Jeanette Kenealy and Donnie Albers.

Services were held Wednesday, February 7 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor. Burial was in the Oakhill Cemetery.

Vieth Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
