In Memory: Harold Davis

Harold Davis, 94, died January 30, 2000 at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, following a brief illness.

Harold was born on a farm southwest of Tennant. Harold attended school in Tennant where he enjoyed playing basketball. He graduated from the Tennant High School with the Class of 1925.

He married Mabel Havick on February 23, 1927 at Harlan. They farmed in the Shelby area for 20 years. Harold drove a school bus for the Tennant School for a number of years.

In 1947, they moved to a farm near Avoca where they farmed for 28 years, retiring and moving to Avoca in 1975.

Harold enjoyed music and played both the button accordion and the mouth organ. He and Mabel enjoyed dancing and attended many dances in the area.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife Mabel in 1980; a daughter, Rose Campbell, two brothers; Albert and Alvin and a sister, Della Eaton.

Survivors include two daughters; Betty Jean and her husband, Clarence Holtz and Maxine and her husband, Eugene Sornsen, all of Avoca, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Lela Davis of Harlan, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Tuesday, February 1 at the Knutson Funeral Chapel in Avoca, Iowa with Mr. Wayne Paulsen officiating.

Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.
