In Memory: Harold J. Zednick

Harold James "Harry" Zednick died Monday, May 8, 2000 in a Jacksonville, Texas, hospital.

Harry was born September 26, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late John (J.R.) and Anna Maresh Zednick. He served on Manila in the Philippines during World War II as an U.S. Army truck driver.

One June 7, 1947, he married Betty Jean Bowen. They lived four years in Magnolia, where he farmed and was commander of the local American Legion Post while also serving as commissioner of the Youth Baseball Association.

In 1951, they moved to Jacksonville, where he worked as a typesetter/printer for thirteen years with the Jacksonville Daily Progress and finally as owner/manager of Bowen Food Store, until his retirement on August 22, 1986.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church, a past Cubmaster of Pack 403, and a longstanding member of the former Jacksonville
Civitan Club, in which he held several offices.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Bowen Zednick; a son and daughter in in law, Harold Jr. "Jimmy" and Tina Zednick; two daughters and a son in-law, Linda and Danny Carter and Martha Grommet; a sister and brother in law, Loretta "Corky" and Bob Jensen; two step brothers, Joe and Frank Tomen; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Bruce Webb officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Stark, Mark Cook, Randy Northcutt, Kevin Wheat, Steve Bateman, David Danner, Danny Ticer and Walter Nowell. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and patrons of Bowen Food Store.
