Schrilda Elder

Schrilda L. Elder (Petersen), 94, of Council Bluffs, died Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Home.

Mrs. Elder was born Jan. 7, 1909, in Laramie Peak, Wyo., to Robert O. Carley and Matilda Shirey Carley.

She moved from Irwin, where she farmed with her first husband to Council Bluffs in 1952. She retired from farming that same year, and worked as a maid at the YMCA for seven years. She also worked for Tip Top Products in Omaha for seven years.

Mrs. Elder was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and was active in social activities and bowling.

Mrs. Elder was preceded in death by her first husband, Hans Petersen in 1981; her second husband, Mathew Elder in 1995; a son, Norman Petersen; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by four daughters, Anna R. Caffery and husband. John. of Council Bluffs, Charlotte R. Aten and husband. David. of Council Bluffs, Alice Steckelberg and husband. Robert. of Harlan, and Elsie Myers of Harlan; a son, Orville Petersen of Bend, Ore.; a daughter-in-law, Lila Petersen of Irwin; two stepdaughters, Bette Snapp and husband. Marvin. of Oroville, Calif., and Peggy Daily of Council Bluffs; a stepson, Matt Elder of Council Bluffs; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Munson of St. John's Lutheran Church will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin.

Memorials may be offered to St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Diabetes Association.
