In Memory: Denise Klahn

Denise Joan Klahn, 36, of Council Bluffs slipped into a diabetic coma and died at her home April
24, 2001.

She was born March 28, 1965 in Council Bluffs to Wendell W. and Maxine (Brockman) Klahn. Gifted
with vocal talent and musical ability, by the age of seven she was performing for audiences, often in area churches.

She graduated from the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton in 1983, where she was
president of her class. She graduated from Simpson College in Indianola in 1987.

Able to play the piano, organ, clarinet, trombone and saxophone, she moved to Council Bluffs to begin teaching private music lessons.
She also worked as a substitute teacher in schools in Council Bluffs and Treynor.

Denise was a gospel singer, composer and recording artist who shared her Christian faith at many of her performances throughout
the Midwest. Among her many appearances were several at Westfair and with the Neola Community Choir.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Benson Street and was a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council
Bluffs.

Survivors include her parents, Maxine and Wendell Klahn, of McClelland; two brothers, Dan Klahn of Blair, Nebraska and Doug Klahn and his wife Kelley of Treynor; a grandmother, Macyl Brockman of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation with the family was held Friday evening at Cutler Funeral Home in Council Bluffs.

A memorial service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Council Bluffs, with the Rev. Mike York, pastor of the Church of Christ of Benson Street, officiating. Burial of ashes was to be later in Zion Cemetery at Treynor.
