In Memory: Mabel Stuhr Schwensen

Mabel Stuhr Schwensen, 99, lied Sunday, April 22 at the Hillcrest Care and Rehab Center in Bellevue, Nebraska.

She was born on September 11, s 901, in Minden, Iowa, one of three children in the family of Charles T. and Rachel Langer Stuhr.

Mabel attended public school in Minden and graduated from high school with the Class of 1918. She was confirmed as a member of the Minden Congregational Church in 1917.

Mabel married Jake Schwensen ran September 20, 1929. They were the parents of one daughter, Shirley. Mabel and Jake celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in September of 1970 with an open house at the Minden United Church of Christ.

She was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ, the Women's Fellowship Group and the Minden Senior Citizens Organization. Mabel was a life long resident of Minden until she entered the nursing home in 1998.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jake and her two brothers, Walter and John Stuhr.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Quirk of Bellevue, Nebraska; two granddaughters, Terri Thompson of Shelby and Lori and her husband Darrell Charlton of Bellevue; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral ceremonies will be held Thursday, April 26 at 11 A.M. at the Minden United Church of Christ with Pastor Denny Peterson Officiating. Interment will be at the Minden Cemetery.

Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca is in charge of arrangements.
