Martha Longden Carlile Pitts, daughter of George and Ellen Longden, was born 4 March 1869 at Park Gate, Yorkshire, England.
At the age of 14 years she came to America with her parents and settled near Oskaloosa, Iowa, later moving to Council Bluffs IA where she was united in marriage to Caleb Carlile, 22 October 1885 and to this union eight children were born.
She united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in October 1888 and was always an active member.
Her husband Caleb Carlile, passed away in 1927. She was later married to Charlie Pitts of Woodbine, IA. Since his death in 1937, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Austin, coming to Missouri in 1940.
She passed away Wednesday, September 24, at the age of 89.
She is survived by five children John and Dorrance Carlile of Independence, Mo; Joshua Carlile, Adrian, MO; Ellen Killpack, Logan IA; and Gertrude Austin of Cameron. George Carlile and twin sons, Willis and Wallace, preceded her in death.
She has 29 living grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; a half sister, Mrs Emily McKim of Gillespie, ILL, and many other relatives and friends.
