Mrs. Esther Schmitt Armstrong 1911-1944

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Congregational church for Mrs. Esther C. Armstrong, 33, who died early Friday morning at the H. Carl Petersen home. Rev. Ivan C. Bachtell was in charge.

Esther C. Armstrong was born the daughter of Paul and Magda Schmitt on September 27, 1911 in Lincoln township, Pottawattamie county, Iowa.

She was confirmed and baptized at the Second Congregational church, and later joined the First Congregational church of Avoca.

She was united in marriage to Cryll E. Armstrong on June 6, 1935 at Denison, Iowa. They made their home in Kennebec, South Dakota.

Mrs. Armstrong has been ailing the greater part of this summer and had spent several weeks at the clinic at Marion, South Dakota.

On July 5, she underwent a major operation at the Methodist hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota. A few days later she contracted pneumonia and serious heart trouble developed. When her condition became alarming she expressed the wish to be taken to the home of her mother, where the best of care and medical attention were given her. She passed away quietly in her sleep at about one o’clock Friday morning, August 24th.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died when she was but one year of age.

She leaves to mourn her husband, Cryll E. Armstrong, who is in the US Army and stationed at Fort F.E. Warren, Wyoming; a son, Eugene, age 7, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Carl Petersen of Avoca, two brothers, Elmer Schmitt of Hancock, and Kenneth Petersen, two sisters, Norma and Betty (article cut off )
