George Leslie 1891-1949
George Felix Leslie was born on May 12, 1891, on a farm northeast of Avoca. He spent the most of his life on farms in Pleasant and Knox townships.
He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad from 1915 to 1935 when his health compelled him to retire.
On February 20, 1919, he was united in marriage to Mary Tierney of Walnut, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, James of Avoca, and George of Chicago.
In 1929, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie bought a farm two and one half miles northwest of Avoca where they lived until October 1947 when they moved to Avoca.
Mr. Leslie had been in poor health more than 12 years and the past 5 years has been partially bedfast. He passed away on Monday, February 7th.
He leaves to mourn his passing besides his widow and two sons, three grandchildren and four brothers: Dan of Harlan, Charles of Avoca, Edward of South Gate, California, and Joe of Council Bluffs along with a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held February 9, 1919, at St. Mary’s church in Avoca. Father Reiz of Portsmouth officiated. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
