Deputy Clerk at Avoca Died Last Sunday
Spent most all his life in and around Avoca. Was ill only three days.This community was shocked Sunday morning when the news was circulated about town that Frank Wise, deputy county clerk at Avoca, had passed away after a three day illness with flu, at his home in the north part of Avoca.
The funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon, March 7, at 9:30 at St. Mary’s church with Rev Father V.D. Cashman officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery, Avoca.
Frank Wise was born at Iowa City, December 23, 1878. He came with his parents to Avoca when a small boy. They settled on a farm near Shelby where he attended the rural schools, later attending the Avoca public schools, after which Mr. Wise attended a business college at Des Moines.
On returning to Avoca he entered the law office of the late Roscoe Barton and the late A. L. Preston. He became deputy county auditor under the late John Hannan. After returning to Avoca, he worked as bookkeeper in the Peoples Bank and also the Avoca State Bank.
Mr. Wise was married to Miss Emma Wunder, November 29, 1922. They moved to Deloit where they lived for five years, Mr. Wise being connected with the Deloit State Bank. After returning to Avoca, he was associated with the Farmers’ Grain, Feed and Oil Company and had charge of the company’s oil station several years.
Besides his faithful wife, he leaves two children, Gretchen and Eugene; four sisters: Mrs. Joe Bollig of Danbury, Sister Mary Clare of the Sisters of Mercy of Omaha, Mrs. Patrick Mannion of Avoca, Mrs. William Flynn of Miles city, Montana; two brothers Mike of Avoca and Eddie of Shelby. Two brothers George and Charlie preceded him in death, Charlie Wise passing away just a few months ago.
Funeral services were conducted by Blust Bros. funeral directors.
