Leonard L. ROLD of Council Bluffs, IA passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 12, 2008. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16 at Timothy Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs with Pastor Michael Petri officiating. Interment was in Ridgewood Cemetery with military rites rendered by American Legion Post 2. Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard L. ROLD was born December 16, 1920 in Avoca, IA to Oscar W. and Amy L. LEE ROLD and graduated from Avoca High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 11 years during World War II and Korea.

Leonard and Vernetta J. BEES were married on September 6, 1942.

… past board chairman at Timothy Lutheran Church, was active in Stephen Ministries, past member of the V.F.W. and belonged to the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Elvin, sister Mildred and grandson Brenden Kyle RAINEY.

Leonard leaves behind his loving family, wife Vernetta; daughters Judith ROLD and Janet ZUEHLKE and husband Frank FRESHWATER of Fort Valley, GA and Vicki DENNEHEY and husband Don of Prior Lake, MN; sons Ronald ROLD and wife Nancy of Columbia, MO and Mark ROLD of Council Bluffs; 15 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and sister Leota SWENSEN of Harlan, IA.
