MRS. LON MEREDITH 1859-1935
Pioneer Resident of Avoca

Mrs. Lon Meredith died at her home on the south side, Monday morning, March 25, aged 76 years and 11 days. The funeral services were held at the Blust funeral home Wednesday afternoon March 27 at 2 o’clock with Rev Gerlt of the Evangelical Lutheran church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Avoca cemetery.

Lydia Ann foster was the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Foster. She was born at Sugar Creek, Jasper county, Iowa, March 13, 1859, where she grew to womanhood.

On September 1, 1886, she was united in marriage to Alonzo Meredith, to this union one child was born, Mrs. Banks Richardson.

Mr. and Mrs. Meredith lived on a farm east of Avoca for several years. They sold their farm and moved to Avoca where they have since lived. Mrs. Meredith’s health has been very poor for several years, the last year her condition has been such that she has been confined to her home most of the time.

Besides her husband she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Bank Richardson and two grandsons; one brother, S.F. Foster of Narden, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Mary E Simmon of Grinnell, Iowa.

Mrs. Meredith had lived in this vicinity for many years. She was one of the few pioneer ladies of this section. She was a lady who was loved by her neighbors and friends for her many motherly acts. She enjoyed seeing other succeed. During her long illness she was always cheerful and thoughtful of others. In her death another pioneer lady has gone to her reward
