CELEBRATES 96th BIRTHDAY
Neighbors and friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Phipps took lunch and went to her home Tuesday to help her celebrate her 96th birthday anniversary. The birthday was really on Wednesday, but because the friends could not go that day they went a day early.

Mrs. Phipps has lived alone for many years, and has no difficulty in doing her own housework and cooking. She writes many letters to friends and relatives and reads a great deal, all without the aid of glasses. When members of her family remonstrate with her about living alone, she poo-poos them out of the house and tells them she can take care of herself, a fact which she continues to demonstrate. She is the mother of Gene Perfect who lives on a farm east of Avoca.

We congratulate Mrs. Phipps on this occasion and hope she may celebrate her century mark.
