MRS. Emma (Rohlfs) MAIER
(October 14, 1852 - April 17, 1932)

Dead at Home in Avoca, Iowa

Mrs. Emma Maier, 79, died at her home in Avoca, Iowa, Sunday after a five day illness of pneumonia. She was the mother of Mark Maier, author of “Daddy’s Davey,” and now head of the mathematics department at Peddie’s school, Heightstown, New Jersey. Her daughter, Zoe, lived with her at Avoca.

Mrs. Maier had in her home a collection of approximately eight hundred pitchers gathered from many parts of the word and reputed to be one of the largest and most valuable collections in the Midwest. At her request it will be placed in the state historical building near the statehouse in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born at Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Maier had resided in Avoca for 57 years. Her husband, George W. Maier, a jeweler, died there 28 years ago.
