John Doll

John Doll was born near Avoca, Iowa, December 20, 1875, and passed away at his home near Walnut February 27, 1918 at the age of 42 years, 2 months, 7 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary E. Gross (Mame) August 24, 1898. To them seven children were born, three sons; William, Francis, Edwin and four daughters; Mary, Irene, Ida, and Clara. Besides his wife and children he leaves one brother, Louis Wiederstein of Audubon and two sisters, Mrs. J Koenig of Audubon and Mrs. W. Ferguson of Atlantic and a host of distant relatives and many friends to mourn his loss. Funeral services conducted by Father Albers were held at 10 o’ clock at St. Mary’s church, Avoca. The remains were laid to rest in the Avoca cemetery. In his death all have lost a very dear friend. His disposition radiated sunshine and happiness wherever he might be. To possess such a character and a heart of true gold is the greatest heritage of God’s noblemen and will serve as a safe transport over life’s uncharted sea. His death has brought a cup of sorrow to the lips of relatives and friends. He was brave, generous and manly. His was the soul of honor and his many friends and friendships were sacred to him. In the presence of such a sorrow how cold and impotent are words and how doubly deep would be the grief over the grave, did not the rainbow of Christian hope span the dark gulf between time and eternity and such pure bright lives inspire the belief that there is a better world beyond where from the corroding cares of earth the good and true are reunited.

We shall sleep, but not forever

There will be a glorious dawn

We shall meet to part—no never

On the resurrection morn.

Card of Thanks
We wish to thank everyone who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and death of our dear husband and father, especially the neighbors and high school pupils for the beautiful floral remembrances.
