Maurice M. Debbaut, age 74, of Council Bluffs, passed away October 21, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Maurice was born February 17, 1934, to Medard and Erma Debbaut, in the township of Burton, Minn. He was a retired industrial engineer from Nebraska Engineering Company of Omaha. Maurice was instrumental in the dredging of Lake Manawa. A member of the Fish & Game Club, he enjoyed volunteering his time and talents for various organizations, and spending time with his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Marty Mattas.

He is survived by wife, Arletta; one son, Marion and wife Debbie, of Council Bluffs; one daughter, Michelle Mattas; grandsons, Derek and Michael, of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Georgene Tierney, of Webb City, Mo., and Barbara Kleinfeldt and husband Darrell, of Savage, Minn.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, 5:30-8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Pastor Jon Benson will officiate funeral services, Saturday, at 10 a.m., at Saint John Lutheran Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Suggested memorials may be directed to Saint John Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
