Oswald F. Schmidt

Oswald F. "Ozzie" Schmidt, 74, of Treynor died Jan. 15 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

He was born Jan. 12, 1929, in rural Treynor to Willie and Emilie (Kaiser) Schmidt. He was a 1947 graduate of Tryenor High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a farm operator and livestock feeder, retiring in 1982. He then was associated with Farm Service Co-op and retired in 1992. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor and served on Church Council. He was a charter member of Pottawattamie County Cattlemen Association. He received the Outstanding Feeder Award in 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 725 in Treynor and Pottawattamie County Last Man's Club. He was a 50-year shipper to the Omaha Stockyards and received an award from the Pottawattamie County Conservation Comission.

Mr. Schmidt and his wife, Betty (Hibbeler), were married Aug. 27, 1955.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Patty Platt, of Casper, Wyo.; three sons, Roger "Butch" and wife, Christina, of Treynor, Rodney of Council Bluffs and Robert "Bob" and wife, Deb, of Treynor; two sisters, Lillie Schneider and husband, George, of Treynor and Elsie Strohbehn of Treynor; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Arlyn C. Norris officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Treynor with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 725 of Treynor, followed by a luncheon at the church.

Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be offered to Treynor Fire & Ambulance or St. Paul's Lutheran in Treynor.
