In Memory: Robert P. Sykes

Robert P. Sykes, 49, of Underwood, died March 4 at his residence.

He was born January 28, 1955, in Keokuk to Arcellus R. and Pearle (Jensen) Sykes. He graduated from Keokuk High School and received his Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering from Iowa State University in 1977 and his graduate studies structures degree in 1978. He was the vice-president of HGM Associates, Engineers and Architects. He worked for HGM from 1978-80 and then from 1984 until present. He was a member of First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arcellus Sykes, and his infant son, Matthew.

Mr. Sykes and his wife, Priscilla Carraway of Underwood, were married 33 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include a son, Alexander R. Sykes of Langston, Oklahoma; four daughters, Yelena A., Rachel E., Anna Rose and Sophie J. Sykes, all of Underwood; mother, Pearle Sykes of Keokuk; sister, Susan Westergard of Milwaukee; brother, Richard Sykes and wife, Caroline, of Keokuk; two nephews, Todd Westergard and fiancee Laura, of St. Louis, Missouri and Arcellus Sykes of Portland, Oregon; and a niece, Melanie Westergard of Milwaukee.

Visitation was held Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral was held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. David Erikson officiating.

Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery with a luncheon following at the church.

Memorials may be offered to First Christian Church or the Micah House.
