In Memory: Leona Vorthmann

Leona L. Vorthmann, 98, died May 3, 2003 at Indian Hills Nursing Center in Council Bluffs.

She was born September 12, 1904 to Arthur and Anna Schultz Saar in Treynor. She taught school at Keg Creek No. 5 and was also a homemaker.

She lived in California for a number of years before returning to Treynor, where she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She volunteered at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and was an active member of the Treynor Go Getters.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace Harsch; her second husband, Roy Julius; her third husband, Herman Vorthmann; and her daughter, Shirley Gleason.

Survivors include her son, Arthur Harsch of Treynor; son-in-law, Max Gleason of Orange, California; three stepdaughters, Anne Hanselmann and husband Herb of Dubuque, Alice Novak and husband Louis of Denver, Colorado, and Audrey Maguire of Treynor; two nieces, Elaine Olsen of Minden and Karen Underwood of Jupiter, Florida; a nephew, Donald Saar of Treynor; two granddaughters, Jean Buzzard of Southlake, Texas and Linda Forgeron of Beaverton, Oregon; four great grandchildren; a great great grandson; numerous stepgrandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family was held Tuesday evening at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor. The funeral was Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Arlyn Norris officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Whittier, California.

Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to Treynor Fire and Rescue.
