Albert H. Snipes Jr., age 82, lifelong resident of Council Bluffs, died January 13, 2008, at his home in Council Bluffs.

He was a veteran of WWII and Korea. In 1986 he retired from Burlington Northern Railroad, where he was a switchman and yard master.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Sally A. Brittain-Balash; parents, Albert and Mary Snipes; brothers, Herbert and Hardy; sisters, Wanetta Snipes, Eva Buchman and Darlene Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Fern A. Snipes; sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl and Linda Snipes of Council Bluffs, Patrick and Debra Snipes, Daniel and Ruta Snipes, all of York, Neb., Dwayne and Teresa Pleas, Gary and Judy Pleas; sisters, Pauline Harrill and Joan Kady; brother, Bob Snipes and wife Shirley, all of Council Bluffs; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 15, 2008, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Timothy Lutheran Church, 3112 West Broadway. Funeral services Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at church, Rev. Michael Petri, officiating. Interment in Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Timothy Lutheran Church Elevator Fund or charity of your choice.
