Edna Christine Sampson passed away Tuesday, 4 December 2007 at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, IA at the age of 92 years, one month and 21 days..

Funeral services were held Friday, 7 December at 1 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Walnut, IA with Merlene Ostebee as the officiant. Serving as casket bearers were Ryan HARGENS, Sean SAMPSON, Michael SAMPSON, Desmond ARMENTROUT, Johnny SAMPSON, Rob SAMPSON, Jason SAMPSON and Kevin SAMPSON. Interment was at the Layton Twp. Cemetery in Walnut, [IA]. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, IA was in charge of arrangements.

Edna Christine SAMPSON, the daughter of William and Marie NOELEK THIES, was born on 13 October 1915 on her parents' farm outside of Denison, IA.

She was baptized on 7 November 1915 and confirmed on 28 January 1935 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She attended country school near Denison . . .

On her 20th birthday, Edna ws married in marriage to LeRoy SAMPSON on 13 October 19135 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They farmed in the Denison and Jefferson areas until 1952 when they moved to a farm south of Walnut.

They were the parents of 11 children.

In 1956 they moved to a home in Walnut where Edna was active in being a Brownie leader for her girls when they were growing up. She was a longtime member of the Walnut Legion Auxiliary and also served as their Chaplain. She was a charge member of Our Savior Luterhan Church in Walnut where she remained very active.

Edna moved to Avoca in 2004 to live in the Senior Apartment Complex. She lived there until 30 November 2007.

Edna was preced in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy, who died in March 1985, her son Robert who died in April 1969, one grandson, one great-grandchild, son-in-law Thomas WILLIE, sisters Emma VETTER and Ella THIES and brother Walt THIES.

She is survived by her children, David (Carol) SAMPSON of Hancock, IA, John (KAY) SAMPSON of Walnut, Arnie (Carol) SAMPSON of Avoca, Mary WILLIE of Folsom, LA, James SAMPSON of Walnut, Wayne (Darlene) SAMPSOn of Walnut, Susan LIBBY of Walnut, Walter (Barb) SAMPSON of Walnut, Martha (Randy) HARGENS of Walnut, and Joseph (Margaret) SAMPSON of Elliott, IA; two sisters, Berth NEUMAN and Anna LAKMANN both of Denison, IA; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
