Donna M. Shafer, age 67, passed away December 10, 2007, at her home in Carter Lake, Iowa.

Madonna Marie "May" Branstetter was born March 19, 1940, in Panama, Iowa, to the late Melvin and Loretta (Schmitz) Branstetter. She graduated from Woodbine High School in 1958 and was united in marriage to John Thomas Shafer in 1959. Together, they raised their family in Weston and Underwood, Iowa. After retirement, they enjoyed wintering on the Gulf in Texas. Donna was an avid gardener and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. A religious person, she was immensely strong in spirit and eternally kind in heart.

Donna is mourned by her husband, John; four children, Jeff Shafer (Rachelle) of Novi, Mich., Kelli Haynes (Arnold) of Treynor, Iowa, Mark Shafer (Jonette) of Shawnee, Kan., Lisa Zigrang (Robert) of Dayton, Iowa. Eight grandchildren will remember her hugs and kisses, Matt, Danielle, Nick, Andrew, Lauren, Jared, Anthony and Jonathan. Sisters, Dorothy Lefeber (Russ) of Harlan, Iowa, Marietta Jacobs (Jerry) of Chicago City, Minn., Betty McKee of Davenport, Iowa; brothers, Cecil Branstetter (Charlene) of Logan, Iowa, Dan Branstetter (Karen) of San Antonio, Fla., Richard Branstetter (Laura) of Avoca, Iowa, many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Mass, Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Kirby, pastor officiating. A lunch will immediately follow the service.
