Iona L. Fischer

Iona Louise Fischer, 86, of Council Bluffs died Dec. 6 at Bethany Lutheran Home.

She was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Bradish, Neb., to William Fischer and Marie Meyer. She lived in Council Bluffs for the past 49 years. She graduated from nursing school. She was a registered nurse for the U.S. Army during World War II. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, Neb.

Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Fitzpatrick of LaPorte, Ind., and Esther Tisthammer of Clumbus, Neb.; one brother, Donald Fischer, of Newton, Kan.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, Neb., with the Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 767. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
