Dr. Deborah L. Munson Barger, 26, of Omaha died Sunday at an Omaha hospital after a short illiness. A pathologiest's autopsy report ruled her death due to viral encephalitis. She had been hospitalized for two weeks.

Dr. Barger was a resident physician in the Pediatrics Department at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

She was born in Council Bluffs, graduated in 1969 as class valedictorian from Lewis Central High School, graduated CumLaude from Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb. in 1972, and with distinction from the University of Nebraska Medical School in May 1977.

She received the Regents Scholorship in 1976 and was a member of the A. O. A. Honorary Medical Society.

Survivors include her husband, Ross; mother, Mrs. Artis Ferrel of Council Bluffs; father, James Munson of Council Bluffs; sister, Cindy Munson of Council Bluffs; grandfather, Arthur Rowley and grandmother, Mrs. Roy Munson, both of Council Bluffs.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Scott Rathman, rector, officiating. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Dr. Deborah Munson Barger memorial Fund in care of the University Foundation Department of Pediatrics, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Neb.

Cutler Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
