John A. Cox, age 84, of Council Bluffs, passed away August 21, 2007, at his home.

John was born March 26, 1923 in Shenandoah, Iowa to the late Francis B. and Vera A. (Lowe) Cox. He graduated from Farragut, Iowa High School in 1940 and served our country in the US Army during WWII. John was a chef at the NCO Club at Offutt A.F.B. for 28 years and Bluffs Run Casino for 15 years retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Bellevue, Neb. VFW and managed the VFW in Shenandoah for many years.

John was preceded in death by his wife Leah Cox in 1984 and his brother Charles "Skip" Cox.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice Person and husband, John, of Crosslake, Minn.; grandson, Michael Person, of Waupon, Wis.; and sister, Florence Nielsen, of Omaha.

Visitation with the family, Sunday, 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial, Monday, 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. Family and friends to meet at the cemetery.

Memorials to American Heart Association preferred.
