Charles L. Gates (1936-2007)

Charles L. "Charlie" Gates, age 70, passed away August 18, 2007.

Charlie was born in Council Bluffs on September 3, 1936 to Len and Clarice Gates. Charlie's father Len passed away when he was a young boy and his mother married Eldon Beebe. Charlie graduated from A.L.H.S. in 1954 and married Norma Wyatt on July 5, 1957. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Charlie served his country in the Army from 1959 to 1962. He was hired by Fuchs Machinery as a sales rep and spent 37 years with their company until retiring. Charlie was an active member at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, their mens group choir, and formerly was a member of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and step father and beloved daughter Allison Espinosa on January 1,1997.

Survivors include wife, Norma; daughter, Valerie Gates; grandchildren, Robert and Vanessa Espinosa, Carson Norlan and Alex Espinosa; son-in-law, John Espinosa and his wife, Kathleen, of Idaha Falls, Idaho; and sister, Virginia Reyes and her husband, Jose of Hillsboro, North Carolina.

Visitation Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Services Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at funeral home. Rev. Greg Carlson, Pastor, Bethany Presbyterian Church, officiant. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post 2. Memorials to the Church and Relay For Life. Luncheon will follow at Bethany Presbyterian.
