Ione V. Straka, age 89, a lifetime resident of Council Bluffs, passed away August 8, 2007, at Woodlands Rehabilitation Center.

Ione was born April 17, 1918, in Council Bluffs to the late John and Mary Ella (Harrison) Pruitt. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1936 and attended Iowa State University for three years. Ione was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Straka in 1975, daughter, Gretchen Moscato in 2005, son, Mark Straka in 2007, grandson, Scott Mescher in 1981, two sisters and one brother.

Ione is survived by daughters, Mary Drakeford and husband, Jerome, Barbara Schartow and husband, Mark all of Omaha, Ione Perkins and husband Terry, Anne Mescher and husband, Tom all of Kansas City, Mo., Katherine Kelley and husband, Mike of Council Bluffs, sons, John Straka, Sr. and wife, Cathy, James Straka and wife, Marcie, all of Council Bluffs, Henry Straka II and wife, Julie of Kimberling City, Mo., 38 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sister, Justine Voberial, daughter-in-law, JoAnn Evans Straka, both of Omaha, son-in-law, Ron Moscato of Pierre, South Dakota, nieces and nephews. Wake Service, Friday, 7:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Kirby, pastor officiating. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with a lunch following at the church. Memorials are suggested to Odyssey Hospice.
