William D. Hardin

Hardin, Skelton & Co., merchant tailors and dealers in gents' furnishing goods, Council Bluffs, began business in Council Bluffs in March, 1881. William Hardin was born in Council Bluffs October 13, 1856, and was educated in the public schools of his native city. he is a son of Martin Hardin, one of the oldest residents of this county. His ancestors were of the first families in Kentucky. Mr. Hardin was messenger boy at the Transfer for some time, and afterward entered the abstract office of J. P. & J. N. Casady, of Council Bluffs. During the years 1878-79-80, he was Deputy County Treasurer. Henry H. Skelton was born in England and came to this country in 1872. He is a professional cutter,a dn up to the time of entering the present firm was employed by Metcalf Brothers as cutter. The present firm of Hardin, Skelton & Co. began business with a stock valued at $7,000, their annual sales being $35,000. They now carry a stock worth $15,000, and the annual sales for 1882, from present indications, will reach $50,000.

WILLIAM D. HARDIN, whose father was one of the pioneers of Pottawattamie County, is engaged in the real-estate and loan business in Council Bluffs. Mr. HARDIN is also City Assessor, to which position he was elected at the spring election of 1890. He is a native of Council Bluffs, where he was born in October 1856. He was educated in the public schools of this city. He began business for himself as a messenger boy, for the Omaha Bridge Transfer Company. With this company he continued two years. He was then employed by J.P. and J.N. CASADY, real-estate agents and abstracters, for about two years and for about six years was employed as one of the Deputy County Treasurers of Pottawattamie County. He then engaged in his present business, in which he has since continued. He is one of the representative young men of Council Bluffs, and is an esteemed and worthy citizen
