John Dirgo

John Dirgo, farmer, P. O. Avoca, was born in Germany June 18, 1832; son of George and Katharine Dirgo, both natives of Germany, he born in 1816 and died in 1876; she born in 1808 and died in 1872. Both died in their native country. They were the parents of three children, two boys and a girl. Our subject received his schooling in his native country, and has been a farmer all his life. He came to the United States in 1855, and was married, in the fall of that year, in New York City, in which place he had landed, to Anna Mary Henn, born in Germany in November, 1830, daughter of John and Katharine (Wilberan) Henn, both natives of Germany, he born in 1792, she in 1800. Our subject lived in New York State, near Troy for fourteen years. He came to Scott County, this State in 1868, where he farmed until coming to Pleasant Township in 1875, where he purchased 120 acres of wild land at $12.50 per acre. He has made improvements, including a one and a half story frame house, 16 x 24. He now carries on farming in early all its branches. He has four children - John, Katie, George and Charlie, who are aged respectively twenty-seven, twenty-five, twenty-two and twenty years. In religion, our subject is a Catholic, ahd in politics a Republican.
