J. W. Baird, attorney, Council Bluffs, was born in Morgantown, W. Va. He came to Council Bluffs in the fall of 1862, where he has ever since resided. He was educated in Council Bluffs Public Schools and at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa. He graduated from the former school in 1870, in the first class ever graduating from that school, and from the latter institution in the spring of 1874, having at that time conferred upon him the degree of M. S., from the same college. He commenced reading law with Sapp & Lyman in 1878. Was admitted to practice the same year, and in the fall of 1878 was elected Justice of the Peace of Council Bluffs, which office he has ever since held. He is of Irish descent.
