Mike Kane, farmer, P. O. Avoca, born in Cook County, Ill., September 20, 1853, son of John and Katharina (Cody) Kane, both natives of County Clare, Ireland; he born June 14, 1814, and is still living in Pleasant Township; she, born in June 1814, and died in James Township, this county. They were the parents of eight children, of whom four sons and one daughter are still living. Our subject received his schooling in Cook County, Ill., near Chicago, and has been engaged in farming all his life. He came to this State in 1865, and lived in Scott, Cedar and Clinton Counties, coming to this county in 1873, and lived in James Township for four years. In 1882, he purchased 160 acres of partly improved land at $20 per acre. He erected a large house, and has otherwise improved the place. He engages in general farming. He was married, November 27, 1879, in Avoca, to Delia Gross, born in Le Claire, Scott County, this State, in December 1854, daughter of Dominick and Mary A. (Ledolph) Gross, natives of Alsace, Germany; he, born in 1822; she, in 1824. Mr. and Mrs. Kane have one child, John Edward, born January 15, 1882. In religion our subject is a Catholic, and in politics a Democrat.
