The daughter of John and Alta (Schryver) Wallace, Doris was born at home in Runnells on December 26, 1927. She grew up in Runnells and graduated from Runnells High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Herbert “Herb” Miller on October 22, 1947. From this point on they became inseparable, even though Herb loved to get her riled up from time to time. Doris took care of life at home to help support her family. Later, her and Herb owned and operated Miller Grocery and Hardware in Runnells for 10 years. She was a devoted member of the Runnells Christian Church and enjoyed helping in the Church.

Doris was a lifelong lover of flowers, jewelry, and most of all her family. Every year for Christmas Herb would ask for help to give Doris the gift that she always looked forward to. Each year Herb would tease that there wouldn’t be a gift, and Doris would smile when with a piece of jewelry was there on Christmas Day. Throughout the years she would faithfully plant flowers around the house. Flowers of all kinds and colors would be inside to decorate her home. More important than the flowers and jewelry was Doris’ family. As her family grew from children to grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren, Doris was smitten with them. She’d make it a point to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and show up to all kinds of events.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Linda (Leonard) Northway, Bob (Barb) Miller, and Connie Miller Dunn; six grandchildren, Lance, Lynn, Mike, Tony, Angela, and A.J.; and seven great grandchildren, Sydney, Madelyn, Carly, Claudia, Sam, Luke, and Paige.

Preceding Doris in death was her husband, Herb Miller; her parents, John and Alta (Schryver) Wallace; as well as sister, Velma (Max) Rinehart.
