Karla Kay Smit quietly joined her heavenly family on January 8, 2014.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., January 18, 2014 at Ankeny Christian Church (2506 SW 3rd, Ankeny, IA).

She was born to Svend and Kathryn Christensen on April 23, 1942. Karla graduated from Atlantic High School in 1960. She lived in Atlantic the majority of her life, until 2009 when she moved to Ankeny, Iowa to be closer to her daughters.

Karla will be greatly missed by daughter, Lori Reynolds and husband Justin Breckenridge, Step son & wife: Steve & Kathy Smit. Grandchildren: Carter Trewet, Max Schmitz; Cora Smit; Josh & Justin Schmitz; Brooke, Tyler, and Madelyn Breckenridge; sisters-in-law Pat & Sherry Christensen, and other extended family.

Waiting for Karla in Heaven are husband, Howard Smit, Daughter, Brenda Schmitz, Brothers, Ross & Tom Christensen, God daughter, Sheryl Martyr, and parents, Svend & Kathryn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Karla may be directed to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or World Wildlife Federation.
