Obituary of a Pioneer

Fred Tingle, born in Gloustershire, England, January 12, 1878, passed away March 7, 1971 at Mansfield, Mo., at the age of 93 years, one month and 23 days.

Fred, the youngest of a family of 10 children, came to Lucas, Iowa, with his family at the age of 6 months old.

After his mother's death, his father returned to England, but the children remained in the United States.

Fred worked for many years in the coal mines beginning at the age of 12. Later he worked as a carpenter and farmer.

He was joined in marriage to Nettie Ridgeway October 23, 1898 and to this union five children were born: Mrs. Charley Parks of Altoona, Everett Tingle of Ava, Mo., Harriett Sellers of Des Moines, Mabel Freel, deceased, and Forrest Tingle, deceased. His wife, Nettie, passed away in 1922.

In 1916, he became a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Runnells, Iowa. He was ordained a teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood and remained a faithful member throughout his life.

In November of 1927, he was married to Hazel Elliott of Prairie City, Iowa, who preceded him in death in 1960.

Fred leaves to mourn his passing his three children, nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held March 11 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Runnells, with burial at Lowman Cemetery.
