West Des Moines, IowaThelma Ruth Brown, 94, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Johnston followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Thelma was born May 1, 1919 in Des Moines, IA to Velora and Mamie (Durham) Brown. She was a policy analyst for Equitable Life of Iowa and a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Thelma was a professional woman and enjoyed her work. She had an unlaboring faith and dedication to her church. Thelma loved to entertain friends at her home. She dedicated her life to the care of her family.
Thelma is survived by her niece, Beverly Brown of Lisbon; nephew, Loren (Debra) Brown of Charlotte, NC; eight grand nieces and nephews and thirteen great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Genevieve, Vivian and Halcyon Brown; brother, Wendell (Vivian/Bee) Brown and a nephew, Jim Brown.
