Raymond Weichman
1925 - 2012
Des Moines, IA

ABOUT
Dowling Catholic High School

Raymond E. Weichman was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on September 25, 1925. He was the last of ten children born to William H. and Catherine (Toohey) Weichman. He passed from this life on January 4, 2012, and joined the love of his life, Celeste Marie Martin Weichman.

He attended Visitation Catholic Church from birth until his death. He attended Visitation School, Dowling High School and Conception Abbey.

Raymond's siblings watched over their youngest brother, and as a result he was very close with them all. Of his nine siblings, Alice Jean McClure remains.

Ray was a paper boy for the Des Moines Register and Tribune. He became a branch manager, and then advanced to being a runner at the Register and Tribune. He worked for the old Paramount Theater, where he would collate flyers for up-coming movies.

Raymond applied for work at the State of Iowa in the 1940's, because at that time "those were the only jobs available". He was chosen to be a data processor. He remained with the State of Iowa for over 35 years and retired in 1989 as a Supervisor for the Department of Human Services.

He met the love of his life, Celeste Martin, in the early 1950's. Although Raymond still considered himself married to this day, they only shared 33 years on this earthly plain together.

Raymond and Celeste had two children, Kathleen (Weichman-Wells) and Joel Weichman. They had a great family life.

Celeste and Ray worked together at Frisk and Moon Catering for extra spending money, serving many parties and meeting many people.

Although Celeste was not able to enjoy their grandchildren, Raymond enjoyed and frequently bragged about their grandchildren: John Michael (Wells), James Patrick (Wells), Bryan David Weichman (deceased), Britanni Morgan Weichman, and Wesley Harmon Weichman.

Raymond does not want people to grieve his passing. Rather he would like them to celebrate that he is reunited with his Celeste, and is able to talk with his parents and the siblings who went before him. Friends and Family may share memories and support at Visitation/Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church from 4 to 6 p.m., January 6, 2012.

The Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m., following the visitation. Memorials may be made to Visitation/Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, Holy Family School, or Catholic Council of Social Concern.
