Marilyn Joan Miller Steen, 77, passed away at her home on September 29, 2011.
She grew up in Washington, IA. While working at the Sigourney drugstore soda fountain, she met and later married Vaughn Steen. They shared 56 years together.
She enjoyed mysteries, ceramics and porcelain work, cake and cookie decorating, word puzzles, quilting and traveling. She loved being surrounded by her family. She taught all of her children how to cook. Over the years she was employed by Chuck's Restaurant, Des Moines General Hospital, Historical Building of Iowa and Iowa Job Services.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry V. and Genevieve Miller; brother, John Miller; and her husband. Survivors include siblings, Janet (Ambrose) Kaalberg, Bill (Bunny) Miller, Deidre (Eugene) Zehr, Phyliss (Bill) Klaus, Nancy Miller, and Tom Miller; children, Valerie (Steve) Nichols, Lynn (Margaret) Steen, Scott Steen, and Brenda (Ric); and grandchildren.
We would like to thank the staffs at Stoddard Cancer Center and Iowa Health Hospice for their gentle and kind care.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines, on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 3 p.m.
