Glen E. Schaefer, 76, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. A Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Glen was born March 8, 1935 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Orville and Carrie (Specht) Schaefer. He enjoyed a long career in law enforcement and later retired from Scheel's in the gun department. Glen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, King David Masonic Lodge #407 in Altoona and the Za Ga Zig Shrine.
Glen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Schaefer; three children, Bradley (Marcia) Schaefer, Glenda (Mark) Hunter and Fritz (Dawn) Schaefer; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister, Lyllis Friest. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig Wesley Schaefer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McLaren's Chapel with a Vigil Service at 4 pm and a Masonic Service at 6 p.m.
