Virginia A. Kosman, 94, passed from this life on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 at St John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk with graveside services at Glendale Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Rosary at 8 p.m. at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines.
Virginia was born on March 4, 1916 in Albia the daughter of James and Cordelia (Keyes) Martin. She graduated from Georgetown High School, attended Ottumwa Heights College and taught country school in the Albia area for several years. She married Edward J. Kosman and to this union twelve children were born.
She is survived by her ten children; Bernard Kosman of Des Moines, Patricia (Robert) Olson of Sioux City, Joyce (Albert) Martinez of Des Moines, Marilyn (Bill) Cox of Des Moines, Darlene (LeRoy) Epps of Springfield, MO, Kathryn Kosman of Estes Park, CO, Karen (Bryan) Cox of Panora, Mary (Ron) Anderson of Des Moines, Virginia (Ray) Barker of Des Moines, Madonna (Bob) Warner of West Des Moines, 28 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward in 1989, three brothers, four sisters, two infant sons James and Joseph, granddaughter Jessica Houghton and grandson Erik Warner.Memorials may be directed to the family.
