Cory, Frances “Fran” Miller – 1938-2011

Passed away peacefully, January 12, at Bright Kavanagh House. A memorial visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 14, with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at the Ankeny Memorial Chapel (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.) A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Elkhart.
Fran was born December 9, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. On January 31, 1969, she married Ralph John Cory Jr and together they raised nine children. They moved into their home of 41 years, just east of Elkhart. Fran retired from the Iowa Beer and Liquor Licensing; then she and her husband purchased an Antique Mall outside of Baxter and ran it for six years. Then she retired again to spend time fishing, she particularly enjoyed their trips to Virginia and Alaska. She was an avid marksman and enjoyed target shooting.
Fran is survived by her husband, Ralph John Cory Jr and nine children: Sheryl Leyden, Susan (Joe) Pinkston, Ralph (Joanne) Cory, Gordon (Sheila) Norris, Andrew (Lori) Cory, Robert (Lisa) Norris, Cindy (Ernie) Walker, Shelly Barnett, and David (Libby) Norris. 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
