Frances Patricia ('Pat") O'Meara passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2012. Her family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 23.
Pat was born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 8, 1926, to Frank and Catherine Cunningham.
Following graduation from Creighton University in Omaha, Pat began her career as a Registered Nurse. On August 27, 1949, she married Donald O'Meara whom she had met while both were students at Creighton. A true partnership, they provided a loving family life for their eight children in Beaverdale, where Pat lived for more than fifty-seven years. Pat's life and passion were her children and grandchildren, providing love and support in their educational and other activities. Pat also enjoyed giving to others, actively volunteering at Holy Trinity School and Church, Dowling High School, Mercy Hospital and Catholic Charities.
Pat was preceded in her death by her husband Don and was the last survivor of her four brothers and three sisters. She will be missed by her children and their families, Michael (Margo) O'Meara, West Des Moines; Denny (Kerry) O'Meara, Des Moines; Eileen O'Meara, Des Moines; Maureen (Jim) Casey, Johnston; Colleen (Terry) Lewton, Des Moines; John (Sheila) O'Meara, Downers Grove, IL; James (Christy) O'Meara, Omaha, Ne; and Thomas (Georgia) O'Meara, Windsor Heights; fourteen grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Many thanks to those who took such good care of Pat over the years - her friends and extended family that never failed to support or visit her, the staff at Walnut Ridge, and the staff at Kavanagh House. Memorial contributions can be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic School, Catholic Charities or Kavanagh House.
