Donald Madison Courtney passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk. He was born on August 27, 1919 in Des Moines to Grover and Lilah Courtney.
Don served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WW II. He married Gladys Salsbury on May 31, 1941. He was a long time member of Norwalk United Methodist Church, a Mason, a volunteer firefighter in Norwalk for 30+ years and spent 18 of those years as Assistant Fire Chief. Don owned and operated Don's Plumbing and Electric in Norwalk for 40 plus years.
Don enjoyed his work, fishing at his parents' cabin in Missouri and making many memories with his family.
Don leaves behind his wife, Gladys; children, Susan (Jim) Brown, Kathy (Bob) Coughennower and Steve (Lori) Courtney; sister, Margaret Huff; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy Lawyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Norwalk United Methodist Church, 1801 Sunset Drive. Family will greet friends starting at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. A graveside service will follow at the Norwalk cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Norwalk United Methodist Church in honor of Donald.
