Sheilah Marie Manley, 70, passed away on August 30, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 4 at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove, Des Moines. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Sheilah graduated from North High School (Class of 1960) and went on to complete undergraduate and graduate studies at Drake University. Sheilah was a dedicated educator. Her professional career spanned four decades and included appointments at the Iowa State University Extension 4-H Program, Joliet Job Corps and the Des Moines Public School System.
Sheilah was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Manley and her parents, Virginia Williams and Jaycee Williams. She is survived by her four children and their families: Jay Manley of West Des Moines and his sons, Donte and Derreck; Jennifer (and Shaleen) Jain of Orono, Maine and their daughters, Victoria and Veena; Julianne Manley of Des Moines and her daughter, Alexandra; and LaShai (and Curtis) Rogers of Denver, Colorado. Her sisters, Verda and Beverly; an aunt, Dora Mackay; and a number of nephews and nieces also survive her.
Sheilah was a caring and supportive friend to all. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta. She enjoyed traveling, which included trips to Israel and South Africa. As a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, she participated in its choir for many years. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
