Joseph Leo Engelbrecht, 34, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 6, 2012. He was a loving father, son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Joe's exceptional work ethic, loyal character, and determined spirit made him a man of integrity.
Joe will be cremated and a visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 10 at Bondurant Federated Church (103 2nd St. Southwest). A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 Tuesday at Bondurant Federated Church. To honor Joe and to honor the Hawkeyes, please wear black and gold if you are able.
He was born on October 27, 1977, in Des Moines, IA, to Leo and Carol Engelbrecht. Joe grew up outside of Bondurant, was raised in the Catholic Church and graduated from Bondurant High School in 1996. He was active in track and basketball, and was very passionate about his involvement in 4H. Joe enjoyed showing sheep at his local county fair and at the Iowa State Fair as well. From an early age he was an avid Hawkeye fan and upon graduation, Joe attended the University of Iowa for one year, and thereafter shortly met his wife, Barbara Ann Clouser Engelbrecht of Nevada. The two were married September 12, 1998, and began to build a loving marriage which resulted in four beautiful children, Carter Joseph (eight), Lily Ann (six), Hazey Mae (five), and Max Gary (four).
Joe started working at Menard's in 1995, and was very successful in his career due to his sense of humor, outgoing personality and dedication to his co-workers and customers. He was a manager at Menards up until his death and left a positive imprint on everyone he worked alongside with.
Joe was an outstanding father and enjoyed spending time with his children and completing projects around the house. He was very skilled at remodeling and took pride in any home improvements and could fix just about anything. Joe had an affinity for books and learning and when he couldn't find the time to read, he enjoyed listening to books and keeping up on current political issues. He loved talking to people and debating politics and sports all while respecting other people's opinions and beliefs. In addition, Joe and Barb spent many weekends entertaining friends and family and hosting an annual bonfire at their acreage.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara (Clouser) Engelbrecht; their four children; parents, Leo and Carol (Hembry) Engelbrecht; sister, Julie (Corey) Barnett, all of Bondurant, IA; father-in-law, Gary Clouser, Nevada, IA, sister-in-law, Tammy Bogenrief, Ankeny, IA, sister-in-law, Susie Clouser, Spencer, IA; brother-in-law, Jeff Clouser, Lawrence, KS; and five nephews; as well as a close circle of aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Joe gave the gift of life by being a donor through the Iowa Donor Network.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
