Richard Leroy Strange

Richard "Rich" Leroy Strange, son of Elmer "Huck" Strange and Helen Marie (Rice) Strange, was born October 14,1950 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines at 68 years of age.

Rich began his education as a youth in Carbondale and attended Interstate 35 Community School, graduating in 1968. He then attended Area 11 Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny and he graduated with a technical degree in auto mechanics. He later worked as a service manager at Stearns Automotive, Mitchell Transmission and retired from R & G General Construction repairing equipment and restoring antique tractors.

He was a member of FFA while in high school and also was a member of the Neophyte Masonic Lodge #301 in New Virginia, IA. Rich was a John Deere collector and loved restoring John Deere tractors. He enjoyed traveling with Connie, attending auctions and swap meets, and fishing.

He later married for a second time to Connie Jean Van Haaften-Strange on July 13, 2018 in Indianola, IA.

Those relatives who preceded Rich death were his parents, Elmer "Huck" Strange and Helen Marie Strange.

Rich leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Connie Van Haaften-Strange of New Virginia, IA; daughters, Rebecca "Becky" (Steve Sr.) Reed of Adel, IA, Ramona "Mona" (Rich) Fiscus of Des Moines, IA, and Melanie Fiscus of Wilsonville, OR; brothers, Cary (Peggy Robuck) Strange of New Virginia, IA, Leonard (Deann) Strange of New Virginia, IA, Randy (Georgia) Strange of Indianola, IA; grandchildren, Steven Reed, Jr. of Adel, IA, Malcolm Scott of Adel, IA, Emily Fiscus of Bridgeport, CT, Catarina Fiscus of Des Moines, IA, Robert Fiscus of Des Moines, IA and Cassandra Fiscus of Des Moines, IA; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Larry) VanWyk of Monroe, IA, Carol (Blake) Carnahan of Fairfield, IA; brother-in-law, Mark (Cindy) Van Haaften of Monroe, IA, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many other relatives and friends.
