Rosemary C. Roland, 72, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Rosemary was born August 5, 1939, in Waukee, Iowa, to Nicholas and Helen Born. She lived in the Des Moines area her whole life, and married Donald Roland on December 7, 1957. She was the private confidential secretary at Deaf Services of Iowa for 17 years. She was a Civil War buff, and was active in the Civil War Preservation Trust. Rosemary enjoyed sewing, knitting, camping, reading and made the best apple pie around. She was also involved in various charities. Her family and friends will remember her for her strong will and determination.

Rosemary is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Don; sons, Tom Roland and Ted Roland (wife, Sandy Tarrant); and sisters, Margaret Trapp, Lavona Miller (husband, Fritz) and Carol Hunt. She was preceded in death by her children, Eric Roland and Wendy Bowman.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Altoona Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Harbor Home, 534 42nd Street, Des Moines, IA 50312.
