Windsor Heights – Marj Akers of Windsor Heights died Dec. 26, 2022. Onoe of 11 children of Noel & Bertha Waters, she was born Feb. 3, 1947 in Atlantic, graduated from Atlantic High School in 1965, and worked at Farm Bureau her entire career until retiring in 2003.
Visitation: Jan. 13 from 4-7 p.m. at Iles Westover Funeral Home (6337 Hickman Rd). Funeral Mass: Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church (1230 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines 50311). Inurnment and lunch following.

Marjorie Ann Waters Akers (Marj), 75, passed away December 26 in Des Moines of congestive heart failure. The funeral service will be live streamed. Born February 3, 1947 in Atlantic, Iowa, she graduated from Atlantic High School in 1965, and dedicated her entire work career to Farm Bureau Insurance until her retirement in 2003.
She was a loving sister and aunt and will be missed by family: Linda and Lance Coles, Alice and Mike Greise, Patty Grieshaber, Eleanor Hopkins, Theresa Voss, Barb Waters, Ben and Tammy Waters, Chickie Waters, Frank and Sheryl Waters, and Rita Waters and close nephew Dalton and his wife Abby, as well as 24 additional nephews and nieces, their spouses and children, cousins and good friends and neighbors.
Preceding her in death are parents-Noel and Bertha, brothers--Rick and Jim, brothers-in-law--Leroy Grieshaber, Sam Voss, Ken Young and Robert Hopkins, and grandnephew Colton Gauger.
A long-time member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, she enjoyed volunteering in the parish and school and seeing the little children. A life-time Yankee and Iowa State Cyclone fan and lover of all sports, Marj also volunteered at the Iowa Hall of Pride. She loved traveling, crocheting, creating artistic decor and spending time with dear friends Ruth Hoy, Gert Stuempfig and Nancy Carter and others.
