Stephen Franklin Sesker of Des Moines, IA, 74, passed away July 11, 2022. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 9:30 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2900 49th Street, Des Moines, IA 50310. Interment of ashes will occur at a later date.
Steve was born on April 13, 1948, in Des Moines, IA, to Nelland and Inez (Nelson) Sesker. He grew up on the family farm near Maxwell, IA, and learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Maxwell Community School in 1966. After high school, he married Sandra Hay, and together they had four children, Stephanie Lynn, Stacey Lee, Stephen Bryan, and Sunday LuAnn. Steve worked various mechanic jobs throughout his career and was also a farmer. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was the first one that family, friends, and neighbors called when they needed help. He could fix almost anything including small engines, mowers, and snowblowers. You name it, he would fix it. He officially retired from the Alleman Co-op in 2015.
Steve loved to dance and met the love of his life, Mary Peterson, at Lake Robbins Ballroom in 2001. They danced at least three times a week with his last dance being the night of his passing. Steve also enjoyed maintaining the ballroom and grounds at Lake Robbins. He loved to travel. Some of the places Steve and Mary visited include Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Hawaii, Alaska, Branson, the Grand Canyon, multiple states, and many cruises. Steve never met a stranger. He would talk to anyone and made friends wherever he went. His greatest joy was spending time with family and making sure they knew how much they were loved.
Steve was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. He and Mary spent many hours serving the congregation and taking care of the grounds. The life he lived was exemplified by serving the Lord and others.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Stephanie (Matt) Phillips, Stacey (Tim) Perry, Steve (Rose) Sesker, Sunday (Dale) Eisenbeisz, Brian (Brenda) Peterson, and Kent (Betty) Peterson; his grandchildren, Kinsey (Austin) Hauser, Madison, and Colton Phillips, Tanner, Kelcey, and Chase Perry, Ava Sesker, Jerzi, Ellie, Brynli, and Camden Eisenbeisz, Rachel (Andrew) Bishop, Feleecia Watkins, Stefanie Lourens, Emily (Adam) Rodriguez, and Samantha (Spenser) Foltz; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Alex, Rian, Graysen, Ashlynn, Edyn, Parker, and Stella; his sister Peggy (Hubert) Vespestad, his brother Gary (Judy) Sesker; his brother-in-law Fuzz Harding; his aunt Marlene (Clint) Sealine, and many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Memorial contributions for Steve can be addressed to his family for later distribution to Immanuel United Methodist Church and Lake Robbins Ballroom. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23.
